Do you want to learn 3 simple putting techniques to make more putts?
Good choice.
You’re in luck!
I’ve been playing golf for over 3 years now and in this post I am going to provide you with 3 key techniques on how to putt. After you have practiced your putting with these techniques, you will be able to make more putts.
Let’s dive right in.
Key #1
Line up your ball:
When you line up your ball, it gives you a stronger chance of hitting it on the line that you choose.
This is because you have a visual cue, being the line on the golf ball, that you can utilize to make sure the end of your putter aligns with during contact.
Once you practice enough and are able to hit this line that is marked on your golf ball more often than not, then putting becomes more about speed control and proper readings of the green, rather than about the contact of your putter stroke.
Key #2
Practice strokes while looking at the hole:
Before you hit your putt, make sure you do a practice stroke.
There are many benefits to making a practice stroke, however, the way you do it is very important.
Making some practice strokes while looking down at the ball is okay, but a more effective way to making these practice strokes are by actually looking at the hole while making your stroke.
I know this might sound a little bit counter-intuitive, however, it actually helps you not only visualize your line, but it also helps you visualize the speed you need to putt at.
Specifically, speed is directly correlated to the stroke length and pace you take it at, which can be practiced by using this technique.
Use Key #1’s alignment, with this key, making practice strokes while looking at the hole to visualize the stroke length and pace you require, and the putt has a much higher chance of dropping.
Key #3
Visualize the putt before you make it:
Lastly, during your last practice putt in Key #2, you need to visualize your putt.
The reason this is so important is because you have a much higher chance of making it, if you believe it, and can see it going in.
Once you are able to see your putt going in, it is time to putt all 3 Key’s to use and make the putt!
You got this!
Example of all 3 Keys in use
Here is a video that illustrates the putting techniques that I’ve mentioned in this blog.
Specifically, the timestamp of (0:18 to 0:24) show an example of the skills I’ve mentioned being put into action. Specifically, Key #1, because the ball is lined up and it is much easier to hit your line that way.
Which key are you most excited to try?
What is the first key that you are going to try?
